Day 9| Walking in Purpose: The Weight of Comparison

A Continued Walk of Grace- Series II

💎 DAY 9 | WALKING IN PURPOSE

The Weight of Comparison

In the beginning of my walk with God, I didn’t know what “purpose” was supposed to look like. I honestly thought it would come in some big, dramatic moment — like God would tap me on the shoulder and everything in my life would suddenly shift into alignment.

But the truth?

My purpose didn’t show up with fireworks.

It didn’t show up loud.

It didn’t even show up in ways I recognized at first.

It came quietly… through small things.

Moments that felt gentle.

Moments that didn’t feel “spiritual,” but they stirred something deep in me.

Moments where God was working on me long before I knew how to work with Him.

And because my walk with God is still so new, I’m learning that He doesn’t start with the big stuff. He doesn’t hand you the spotlight, the assignment, the gift, the calling all at once.

No… God starts with the places you overlook.

The things you don’t think matter.

The moments you take for granted.

And for a while, I didn’t get that.

I felt like, “God, if You gave me a purpose… why do I feel stuck in these small things? Why does my healing feel slow? Why does my growth feel quiet? Why am I still trying to figure out how to pray without stumbling over my own words?”

And one day, when my heart was overwhelmed and I felt like I wasn’t doing enough, God whispered something that changed everything:

“I’m watching how you handle this.”

This.

This season.

This healing.

This learning.

This starting-over moment.

This version of me that is still tender, still unsure, still rebuilding.

God wasn’t looking for perfection —

He was looking for willingness.

He was looking for consistency in the places I didn’t even value yet.

And the more I sat with that, the more I realized something important:

Faithfulness doesn’t always look strong.

Sometimes it looks like trying again.

Sometimes it looks like picking up your Bible after a hard day.

Sometimes it’s just choosing not to give up.

When you’re new in your walk, faithfulness is showing up when you don’t feel qualified.

It’s whispering a prayer even when your voice shakes.

It’s letting God deal with the parts of your heart you’re scared to face.

It’s trusting Him when you’re still learning who He is.

And it’s wild because the moments I thought were “nothing” ended up being the moments God used the most.

There were nights I sat alone writing — not knowing why I was writing or who it was for. It was just me, my thoughts, my emotions, and this quiet pull on my heart. I didn’t know those little entries would become part of something bigger. I didn’t know they’d be the beginnings of Gem of Grace.

All I knew was:

I was growing.

I was healing.

I was showing up in small ways — and God was honoring it.

And now, looking back, I see how those little steps mattered.

They softened me.

Taught me patience.

Made me pay attention to myself in ways I never had before.

Made me pay attention to God.

Made me slow down and listen.

The small things aren’t a waste.

They’re the foundation.

And I want you to know something — especially if you’re new in your walk like me, or you’re rebuilding, or you’re trying to find your footing:

You’re not behind.

You’re not overlooked.

And you’re not failing just because your season feels small.

Sometimes God keeps things small so we can learn how to handle them with a steady heart.

Sometimes He stretches us gently before He stretches us widely.

Sometimes He builds us quietly because the noise would break us too soon.

Faithfulness in the small teaches us how to breathe again.

How to trust again.

How to move again.

How to believe God for bigger things without rushing past the healing He’s doing right now.

So if your progress feels tiny…

If your prayers feel simple…

If your steps feel shaky…

If your purpose feels unclear…

Take heart, Gem.

Those little things are not little to God.

He sees every single one.

And He’s growing you in ways you won’t recognize until later.

Purpose doesn’t begin big — it begins with one small yes at a time.

📖 Scripture

“He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much…”

— Luke 16:10

💭 Reflection

What small step is God asking you to honor in this season of your new walk?

Where can you show up consistently, even if you’re still healing and still learning?

🙏🏽 Prayer

Lord, thank You for meeting me right where I am.

Teach me to trust the small places and not rush past what You’re doing in me.

Help me show up with a willing heart, even when I don’t feel ready.

Grow me gently as I learn to walk with You day by day.

Amen.
