💎 Day 16 | Letting Go to Grow
Growth and grief often walk hand in hand.
It’s one of the most painful truths of our faith walk — sometimes, you have to let go of something good in order to step into something greater. Letting go doesn’t always mean loss. Sometimes, it means release — a sacred surrender that makes room for the new thing God wants to do in you.
We often hold tight to what’s familiar, even when God is calling us forward. It’s human nature. We cling to comfort, to people, to seasons, to versions of ourselves that once served a purpose. But there comes a time when holding on keeps us from receiving what God has next.
When we refuse to let go, we’re saying in our hearts, “God, I don’t trust what’s ahead.”
But when we release it — that relationship, that disappointment, that fear — we’re declaring, “God, I believe there’s something greater waiting for me.”
Letting go doesn’t mean you stop caring. It means you trust God to carry what you can’t.
Think of Abraham, asked to leave everything familiar — his home, his family, his comfort — for a promise he couldn’t yet see. Think of Ruth, who left behind her homeland to follow Naomi into the unknown. Think of Jesus, who let go of His will to fulfill the will of the Father.
Each act of surrender led to greater growth, deeper faith, and divine purpose.
And it’s the same for us.
Letting go hurts because we grieve the version of life we thought we’d have. But growth can’t happen without release. You can’t hold on to what was and reach for what’s coming at the same time. Sometimes, you have to open your hands — even if they’re trembling — so God can fill them again.
I’ve learned that some endings aren’t punishments; they’re pivots. God isn’t taking something from you — He’s making space to give you something new.
There’s beauty in every release. It’s the pruning that leads to purpose. Just as a gardener cuts away dead branches to make room for fruit, God will gently remove what’s hindering your growth — not to harm you, but to help you flourish.
He knows what you need to let go of, even when you don’t.
Maybe it’s a relationship that no longer aligns with where He’s taking you. Maybe it’s the guilt or shame of your past. Maybe it’s the habit of trying to control outcomes instead of trusting His timing.
Whatever it is, He’s not asking you to let go to leave you empty — He’s asking you to let go so He can fill you with something better.
When you release your grip, you make room for His grace. And as painful as that process may feel, it’s the beginning of true growth.
💭 Reflection
What is God asking you to release in this season of your life?
Are there areas where you’ve been holding on out of fear rather than faith?
How could surrendering those things make space for something greater?
🙏🏽 Prayer
Thank You for being patient with me as I learn to let go. You know how tightly I’ve held on to things, people, and plans that no longer serve my purpose. Help me to release what You’ve asked me to release — even when it hurts — and trust that You are working all things together for my good.
Give me courage to walk away from what was and faith to walk into what will be. Remind me that Your pruning is not punishment, but preparation. Where there has been loss, let new life bloom. Where there has been fear, plant faith. Where there has been pain, grow purpose.
In Jesus’ name, Amen
