Day 27|Refined by his Grace: Blessing of Broken Plans

💎 Day 27 – The Blessing of Broken Plans

There was a time in my life when I believed that the safest place I could be was inside a plan — a routine, a structure, a vision I could control. I loved knowing what was coming. I loved my lists, my calendars, my rhythm. It made me feel steady. It made me feel prepared.

But life has a way of reminding us that we don’t control nearly as much as we thought.

When my health shifted… when relationships changed… when dreams I held close slipped out of my hands… everything I thought was secure fell apart. And at first, all I wanted was to go back to what I had before. Back to “normal.” Back to the life I recognized.

But healing opened my eyes to something I didn’t see at the time:

God wasn’t trying to take me backwards.

He was gently moving me forward — even when it didn’t feel like it.

There wasn’t one single moment when everything suddenly made sense. No dramatic sign, no big emotional scene. It happened slowly. Quietly. Over time. A little at a time.

I started noticing that the things I once fought to hold onto no longer fit me.

My desires changed.

My priorities shifted.

My heart softened in places I didn’t even realize had grown hard.

And little by little, I realized God wasn’t ignoring my prayers —

He was redirecting me.

Broken plans have a way of stripping away our illusion of control. They reveal what we’ve been leaning on. They expose the things we placed security in without even knowing it. And they teach us how to trust — truly trust — the God who sees the whole picture when all we see is pieces.

I didn’t recognize the blessing at first. I was too focused on what I lost.

But with time, I began to notice the goodness that came from the detour:

New strength.

New clarity.

New peace.

New direction I never would’ve chosen on my own, but now can’t imagine living without.

And today, looking back, I can say with confidence:

Some of the best things in my life came from plans that didn’t work out.

God wasn’t punishing me.

He was protecting me.

He was preparing me.

If your plans feel scattered right now, you’re not off course —

You’re being guided.

Sometimes broken plans are the greatest blessing you never expected.

📖 Scripture

“A man’s heart plans his way,

But the Lord directs his steps.”

-Proverbs 16:9

💭 Reflection

Think of a plan that didn’t work out the way you hoped.

What quiet good has come from it with time?

🙏🏽 Prayer

Author of my story, thank You for the blessings hidden in broken plans.

Help me release what I thought life would look like so I can receive what You’re building in its place.

Redirect my steps gently, and teach me to trust You in the process.

Amen.
