💎 Walking in Purpose | Day 3: When the Door Seems Closed

A Continued Walk of Grace- Series II

There are some doors I begged God to open… and honestly, I’m glad now that He never did.

But in the moment? Whew. It felt personal.

Every closed door felt like a setback, like another reminder that maybe I had messed something up or heard God wrong.

For a long time, I used to take closed doors as rejection — not redirection. I would push, cry, overthink, and try to force something to happen because “it should have worked.” I’d convince myself I was so close, that one more try, one more email, one more prayer would somehow pry it open.

But God doesn’t bless everything we’re willing to fight for.

Sometimes He loves us too much to let us walk into something that will drain us, distract us, or delay us.

I remember a season where I really thought an opportunity was mine. Everything looked aligned. Everything looked right. The kind of “this is the one” feeling that makes you start planning the future around it. And then one ordinary day… the door slammed shut.

A simple email.

A quick no.

And I felt embarrassed for believing, frustrated for hoping, and honestly… a little angry with God.

But here’s the thing about closed doors — they don’t stay silent forever.

When God shuts one, He eventually makes sure you understand why.

Because later, when a smaller, quieter, less glamorous door opened for me… it brought more peace than anything I had chased before. It wasn’t what I wanted, but it was what I needed. And looking back, I saw His hand all over the no I once hated.

God doesn’t close doors to punish you.

He closes them to position you.

The disciples experienced this too. In Acts 16, the Holy Spirit literally prevented them from entering certain places. Not because they were wrong — but because it wasn’t time. Their detour led them exactly where God needed them… and it changed lives.

Some doors aren’t delays — they’re protection.

Some no’s aren’t setbacks — they’re safety nets.

Some endings aren’t losses — they’re rerouting.

If you’re standing in front of a closed door right now… and it still stings… hear me from a place of experience:

You did not miss what was meant for you.

God’s purpose doesn’t need perfect timing on your end — just willingness on your heart’s end.

When I pray now, I don’t say, “Lord, open every door.”

I say:

“Lord, open the right one — and give me the grace to let go of the wrong ones.”

Because the older I get in my journey, the more I’ve learned this truth:

Purpose unfolds through permission, not pushing.

You don’t have to force what God has already prepared.

And if a door is closed… another one is quietly opening in a place you didn’t expect.

Walk in grace, not striving.

He’s guiding you — even here.

What closed door still hurts when you think about it?

And could it be that God wasn’t denying you… He was protecting you?

🙏🏽 Prayer

Lord, thank You for the doors You’ve opened and the ones You’ve lovingly closed.

Help me trust Your timing even when my heart feels disappointed.

Redirect my steps gently, and give me peace to release what wasn’t meant for me.

Lead me toward the yes that carries Your purpose and Your presence. Amen.
