💎 Day 12 | Walking in Purpose: When Purpose Feels Heavy

A Continued Walk of Grace- Series II

No one really tells you that even in the beginning, purpose can feel heavy.

When I first said yes to God, everything felt new. My faith was fresh. My heart was open. I was learning how to pray, how to listen, how to walk with Him day by day. I didn’t have years of experience or deep spiritual language — just a sincere desire to follow Him after a season that changed everything for me.

I came to faith hungry, grateful, and willing. But even early on, I realized something I wasn’t expecting: purpose can carry weight, even when your walk is brand new.

There were moments when I wondered how something that felt so God-ordained could also feel so exhausting. Opportunities began to open. Doors I never imagined started to crack open. And suddenly, I felt the quiet pressure of trying to “do it right.” I wanted to honor God. I didn’t want to mess it up. I didn’t want to misrepresent Him.

I remember sitting alone, overwhelmed, whispering, “Lord… I’m still learning. I want to do this for You, but I feel so tired.”

That’s when a familiar verse met me right where I was:

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Jesus didn’t tell me to slow down my faith.

He didn’t tell me to step away from the calling.

He simply invited me to come closer.

I’m learning that rest isn’t something you earn after you’ve grown enough in faith. Rest is something God offers you at the very beginning. Especially when you’re new. Especially when you’re still learning how to carry what He’s entrusted to you.

When purpose starts to feel heavy, it’s often because we’ve begun trying to carry it ourselves. Without realizing it, we shift from surrender to striving. We worry about saying the wrong thing, taking the wrong step, or falling short. The joy that once felt so natural starts to feel fragile.

There have been moments when I’ve had to pause and admit to God that I was trying to do spiritual work with human strength. I didn’t have all the answers — and I still don’t. But I’ve learned that God isn’t asking me to be an expert in faith. He’s asking me to stay close to Him.

Little by little, He’s been teaching me gentle rhythms of grace. Praying honestly instead of perfectly. Saying no when my body and spirit need rest. Taking quiet moments without distractions. Learning that it’s okay to grow slowly.

Even Jesus took time to step away and be with the Father. If He needed that closeness to sustain His mission, how much more do we — especially when we’re just beginning?

Sometimes the heaviness comes from forgetting our role. We are called to obedience, not perfection. God handles the outcome. We simply respond. When we try to control both, the weight becomes overwhelming.

I’m learning that purpose feels lighter when I remember I’m not responsible for the results — only for the yes.

If your faith is new and you already feel tired, please hear this: you’re not doing anything wrong. You’re not weak. You’re learning. And God is patient with every step.

Purpose doesn’t require you to carry everything at once.

It requires you to keep coming back to Him.

Lay the weight down.

Breathe.

Rest.

Rest isn’t something you grow into later — it’s something God gives you now, even at the beginning.

🙏🏽 Prayer

Father, thank You for meeting me at the very beginning of my faith journey. Teach me how to rest in You as I learn to walk with You. Help me release the pressure to have it all figured out. Remind me that You carry the weight — and I just need to stay close.
